Play Ball!

I walked out the door this morning in 28 degree weather; hearing the crunch of my footsteps across the frozen dew. Yes, this is high school baseball weather! And it is the first official day of practice!

I have a few mixed feelings about this season...my son is a senior this year. This is his last ‘first-day’ of baseball. When his brother was a senior, I still had more seasons to look forward to because my younger son was entering high school the next year. With this one, it truly is the last season.

My life as a baseball mom started 17 years ago. My oldest son, Jesse, was only four years old (he would turn 5 before the August 1st deadline!) I didn’t know much about this sport. And thus, I began to "Learn Baseball, Live Baseball, and Love Baseball".

We are a baseball family! Beside our home team Eagles, we love the Astros (and the Braves -- that's for you Jesse!)

And hopefully in a few years, we will come full circle and enjoy watching the grandbabies play ball!

Just Weights?

Just got back from an exercise class called “JUST WEIGHTS”, and found out that name is a little misleading. 30 minutes of hand-weights, Ab Ball, Flex Bands, and floor work. I have to admit. It was tough, but when the instructor said we were done I was surprised that it had already been half and hour! So I have decided it is a pleasant change from the treadmill and I’ll make this a regular Tuesday lunchtime event!

SuperBowl weekend is coming up so I thought I would share some pictures of my little MVPs! (Sutton, Slayten & Boston)

And of course I have to include Uncle "K"! Who is teaching them everything he knows about football!

Awesome Weekend!

We got to Houston about 4:00 Friday afternoon. We spent a few hours playing with Cara’s Wii Fit. That was a blast...and My Wii Fit Age is “32”! Woo hoo! Not sure exactly what that means, but I like the way it sounds! Then we walked (benefit of Cara living in Mid-Town!) to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner. Then back to the apartment where Cara hooked up American Idol on Wii & we serenaded my hubby (& probably her neighbors)!

Saturday we were up early for our “Day of Pampering”. We both had massages that morning; met Thumper for lunch, then off to Mid-town Retreat for facials and pedicures! The facials were a first for both of us...and I loved it! It wasn’t anything like I envisioned. And I’m not sure I can even relate to you everything that I experienced (because my eyes were closed 90% of the time!) but I’ll try.

When I emerged from the dressing room in this big wrap-around robe and little bamboo flip-flops, I was led to a quiet room (a lot like a massage room, but the table is much more comfy) by my esthetician, Lisa. Lisa began by rubbing some sort of cream/cleanser over my face and neck and then gave a very relaxing face/neck massage. Then Lisa removed the cream with hot towels and repeated with another type of cream. Lisa put little pads over my eyes and brought over the heat lamp and steam. She left the room for a while and I just laid there listening to the soft, oriental music and trying to breathe through the steam (not an easy thing!) When Lisa returned, she used more lotions/oils and massaged my arms & hands. Then there were more warm towels and then a masque of some type was applied. I could tell it has some grainy texture (like oatmeal). And after that some sort of scrub was used on my face. Next Lisa applied something that felt like one of those peel-off masques? (I sure wish I could have seen what they were!) And between each of these were more of those wonderful hot towels! The finishing touch was some type of toner and then a cream that was applied with a very soft sponge. It was fabulous! And just a relaxing as the massage earlier that morning!

Back to the dressing room to change then Cara & I were seated next to each other for our pedi’s! These were wonderful as always, and we were given hot green tea and white wine to enjoy while we were being pampered! The only bad thing about the facials is afterwards your hair is a mess! So we hurried back to the apartment to wash our hair!

We had dinner that night at my favorite Mexican restaurant in Houston; Café Adobe. It reminds me a lot of Superior in Shreveport! Food was great and the margaritas were fantastic!

It was a great weekend! And we can’t wait to do it again!

Pulpwood Queen

I read in the paper this week about a book club called the Pulpwood Queen's. It was started by the owner of Beauty and the Book (hair salon and bookstore) in Jefferson. The book club began 8 or 9 years ago and has grown to have over 240 chapters! They have an annual Convention in Jefferson every year (next weekend) and it just looks like so much fun! I have already talked to a few of my friends and I think we are going to start our own chapter! According to their website, the requirements are a $25 one time fee, read the selected book each month and meet to discuss, and you have to wear a tiara to your meetings! I have added their blog to my list of "blogs I'm following" so check it out!

Beyond Belief

I just finished reading 'Beyond Belief' (autobiography of Josh Hamilton). I highly recommend it! An inspiring story and a quick read. My husband read it first and warned me it might bring a tear...and he was right. I cried several times. To know what he had, what he threw away, and that God had a bigger plan for him, and then to see God bring back to him what he threw away...but this time to an humble, talented ball player who realizes a bigger purpose for his talent. Tears of Joy! He also has a spot on http://www.iamsecond.com/#/seconds/Josh_Hamilton/. Watch it...then get the book! Let me know what you think!

In My Own Little Corner...

"In my own little corner, in my own little chair, I can be whatever I want to be..." OK...for those of you who aren't familiar with those lyrics...they are from Rogers & Hammerstein's 'Cinderella'. Leslie Ann Warren sang that song in the TV version that I remember from my youth. I haven't seen that movie in a while, but that song has been in my head for about a week! So now you know where I came up with the title for my blog site! And from my own little corner (or computer) I can be whatever I want to be...and today that is a blogger!
